Do Motorhomes Have Showers?

Motorhomes are a far cry from tent camping, where you expect to get down and dirty. These vehicles are meant to help you bring some of the comforts from home with you on the road, which can be immensely helpful for long trips. The exact model of motorhome will make a difference in how many home comforts you can take with you.

Some motorhomes are practically apartments on wheels, while some are more in the camper van category. While the latter type can be cozy, camper vans do not ordinarily incorporate a shower into their design. 

If having a shower inside is important to you, know the difference before you go out to purchase your motorhome. Often, your motorhome needs to serve not only as a functional vehicle but also needs to incorporate the utilities of living space, including the water storage for your shower. This generally comes from your main freshwater tank. 

Thankfully, you will not have to go out of your way in order to select a motorhome that has the type of bathroom setup you need. Standard motorhomes and RVs usually come equipped with some shower setup, although the exact specifications and capabilities will vary.

Can You Fit A Shower In Any Motorhome?

Many modern motorhomes will generally incorporate some shower setup, but if you are looking for a 5-star equivalent, you may find yourself disappointed. The type of amenities in your motorhome will largely depend on what class of RV you select. 

Motorhomes fall under three different classes:

  • Class A
  • Class B
  • Class C

Class A Motorhomes

If you have ever seen a celebrity roll into town, then you have likely seen this type of motorhome. They are associated with lifestyles of luxuries, whether that be for someone famous or the retired couple now traveling the country in style. 

Class A motorhomes are more like condos on wheels. These beefy, bus-sized motorhomes can be up to 45 feet long, and despite their daunting size, they do not require a commercial driver’s license to operate. You can comfortably fit up to 10 people in this type of motorhome, and showers are a standard feature in their design. 

Class A motorhomes are the fanciest class of motorhomes. These definitely have showers since these are meant to be as nice as someone’s home, if not nicer. These types of motorhomes are not the kind you would see at a campsite. You might see a Class A motorhome on the interstate and wonder what world-famous band is inside.

Class B Motorhomes

These motorhomes are also known as campervans. Class B motorhomes are about the size of an industrial van, but they are the “mullets” of the motorhome world—business in the front and party in the back. These motorhomes are best for one to two people to fit in comfortably.  

They are easier to drive on the roads, and so they can navigate easier, whether that is in traffic or out in those remote campgrounds. Some models even include toilets. Since you cannot really stand in the living areas of a campervan, indoor showers are not often included. This is not a hard and fast rule, though. 

Class C Motorhomes

Chances are that you have seen this type of motorhome on the road. These motorhomes are the classic mashup of an RV with a truck “face.”

Because they combine the function of a truck with the living space of an RV, you can drive them more like a regular vehicle, which negates the learning curve that comes with driving a bulky Class A motorhome bus. 

At the same time, Class C motorhomes still have some of the amenities that make your trip a better experience, all while helping cut down on fuel costs. 

Other Types of RVs

Pop-up trailers and “teardrop” style RVs are unlikely to have a shower included since they are designed mainly for you to eat and sleep inside. Think of them as a portable hard-shelled tent that you do not need to completely set up and take down every time. 

This type of RV can have its advantages, but it also requires other arrangements—you need to hook these types of RVs up to your vehicle—and you will need to plan your driving routes around rest stops in order to access any bathroom facilities. 

Which Motorhomes Come With Showers?

Motorhomes of all classes can come with showers, but you are more likely to find them on some models than others. Do you want more room to stretch your legs, or are you looking for more of a minimalistic approach? The Largest Bathroom 

Class A motorhomes are the most luxurious available, and these models are no exception, with some of the largest bathrooms on the market.

Not only is the 42Q model’s shower sizable at nearly 12 square feet, but there are two bathrooms in the floor plan. Additionally, the Fleetwood’s shower has lovely tile, glass doors, and—most notably—a skylight if you fancy a midshower stargazing session. These Class A showers are not purely for function.

The Best Space-Saver

It is uncommon, but not impossible, to find a shower in a standard campervan. If you want to minimize your bathroom space while making the most of your trip, these campervans are the best place to start.
